How to be a successful Artist
Ironically, selling your art can be a bit of a science. Fortunately, Socurio limits the clutter in the Gallery by only allowing artists that are approved by the community to sell, meaning folks do not have to wade through flea market type knick knacks to find their ideal work of art. That said there are various things you can do as an artist to improve your success in the Socurio Gallery. We offer some of our insight and encourage you to share success stories and learning experiences below.
1. Bring users to your Loft
2. Price your art effectively
3. Provide great customer service

1. Bring users to your Loft:
You can increase traffic to your loft both inside and outside of Socurio.
Inside of Socurio
Be Active in the Community: The paramount way to drive people to your loft is to be active in the Socurio community. Each time you comment on a junto, event, piece or art or collect someone’s work, your defining image is indicated on that page. When someone clicks on your image, it immediately takes them to your loft. The more active you are, the more potential buyers see your name, and the more likely they are to come across and purchase your art.
i. Take pride in your loft: Your loft is your own virtual gallery, dedicated to you and your craft. Write a thoughtful biography and share your motivations in the Thoughts section. Join various Juntos that give potential customers insight into you as a person and an artist.
ii. Contact your Collectors: Those that have collected your work are interested in you and your work. Reach out to them to update them on a new piece or idea you are pursuing. Pulse your collectors for ideas, and ask them to participate in your events and juntos.
iii. Contact your Contemporaries: See above, but avoid entering email address
iv. Share your loft: The share your loft feature on your loft allows you to send a template or custom invitation to one or multiple email addresses. Keep an update to date email address book.
v. Respond to member’s comments and inquiries: Socurio aims to make the fine art buying process approachable for people from all walks of life. In Socurio as in life, there is no better way to break down barriers than through communication. Customers are far more likely to buy from someone they have interacted with than someone they have not.
vi. Treat your customers well: The rating system in Socurio makes it important to do well by your customers. Be honest in your upload information, ship when and how you say you will ship, and resolve any disputes.
Outside of Socurio
i. Leverage social networks, physical and virtual: Download the Socurio Facebook application (coming soon!) to create awareness on the social network behemoth that is Facebook. With the application, every time you upload a piece of art, your Facebook profile is updated with a message that allows others to jump to your loft.
ii. Add your Socurio loft page to your email and mobile text message signature: Adding your loft link (www.socurio.com/myloft/sashakoehn) to the end of your emails, correspondence or blog entries is a free and easy way to draw eyes to your loft.
iii. Maintain a mailing list: Maintaining a mailing list allows you to quickly contact those interested in your art of new pieces and developments in your life.
iv. Order a t-shirt, we sell them at cost! – support@socurio.com to order an American Apparel Socurio t-shirt for $12+$3.95 for shipping.
2. Price your art effectively
Your art is one of a kind and the result of your own blood, sweat and tears. We understand that it can be difficult to “put a price” on your work. We offer a few thoughts on pricing below. Please note that the make an offer feature in the Socurio Gallery allows you to field potential offers without the awkward confrontation that comes from negotiating.
i. Price the piece at what you believe it is worth: Be honest with yourself and your potential customers. You know the time and materials that went into your piece, so set a price that allows you to avoid the feeling that you are giving it away but also allow you to look your customer’s in the eye. With the events feature of Socurio, you may very well do that some day.
ii. Offer a wide price range on multiple pieces: Traditionally, art buyers do not love only one piece by an artist, they love all work by that artist. Customers may shy away from more expensive canvas creations today in favor of a sketch, but the chances they come back in the future for larger purchases are much greater if you make a connection with a starter piece.
3. Provide great customer service
The amount of user generated content proliferated through Socurio and the internet allows everyone to have a voice and engage in dynamic discussions. Providing great customer service ensures the conversations had about you are favorable.
i. Be as transparent and honest with your creation descriptions as possible
ii. Promptly reply to customer inquiries before and after a sale
iii. Send a thank you to customers after they purchase from you
iv. Follow up with customers to see how their purchase is performing
