Contemporary Abstract
Inspired by the numinous dread and wonder at the billions of stars overhead in dark English skies, my work is colored with the collective awe that humanity shares for our fragile finite selves in the infinite vastness of the cosmos.
My starting points often involve massive stone and ancient astronomical earthworks and attempt to speak to the human impulse to solidify the incalculable chaos of the universe in finite ways, through a created collaboration of science and art.
The circle is my romance with the void and resolves to represent the un-manifest, the non-rational, the potential, and the axis mundi of the spirit.
In the paintings I distill together multiple layers of scientific text, mathematical designs, symbolic patterns and asemic text, rooted in early tablets and languages. Using the circle with metal, metallic paints, resins, leaf and patinas, I seek unexpected transfigurations of light within the surface of the work.
