Part of being an artist is to allow for the unexpected; to thrive on artistic change even as you mourn it. Trained in conventional photographic processes, I have chosen to specialize in Alternative methods. For many years I’ve fulfilled my creative vision through Polaroid art techniques. Just as I hit my stride, Polaroid stopped producing film. At the same time, I had relocated from Ohio to Florida.
Rather than grieve my loss, I channeled my photographic vision by reestablishing my roots: black & white photography. But this time, I’ve added a twist: Infrared.
Florida is the perfect locale to realize my Infrared vision. Everywhere I train my camera – from suburban buildings to hidden parks – I see the fine bones of a state that welcomes change, while still holding onto its past. Where other artists see Florida as the colorful setting it is, I prefer to render it in the elemental environs I envision it once was and will always be.
Visualized through my infrared images, Florida is a state of being.
