painting
Painting is a visual and physical kind of storytelling. Painting is emotional for me. It starts with an emotional response and that feeling is developed and explored. I don't want to make art that tells you what to think; I want to make art that encourages you to feel.
When I see a combination of colors or textures or shapes I begin to create a visual story of how they interact.
The subject matter that I choose adds another ingredient, that of surprise. A special gift, a hike in nature, a trip to the farmers' market, or a romantic getaway may turn into an unforeseen series that surprises me as much as anyone else.
Matisse, Wolf Kahn, and Morandi are special heroes to me and Musee d'Orsay brought tears to my eyes.
