artist

In "On Modern Art," Paul Klee presents a metaphor of the artist as the trunk of a tree. The roots represent the greater pool of human thought, creation, and experience while the branches represent the work of art. The nourishment collected at the roots is the true life force of the art. As the artist I am merely the medium through which the nourishment is siphoned. I share this philosophy, and as such, I feel that in being an artist I must also be a student of poetry, literature, music, science, history, philosophy, etc. Visual art allows me to make connections between the different things that I learn and experience, extracting new meaning through visual metaphor. My greatest dream as an artist is for my work to cycle back to its roots and become part of the greater pool of human thought, creation, and experience.
