Digital Photography

After many years of calling myself a photographer I now have a new title, Digital Artist. When I first began using a digital camera I looked upon it as just one more tool in the photographers kit. But as I sat at my computer performing manipulations that previously would have required a darkroom I realized there was very little photographic about it. No film, no paper, no chemicals, instead I was using a digital capture device and a computer. Just ones and zeros and pixels on a screen. Because it is not photography per se I realized I was no longer bound to a photographic look but could experiment with a full range of artistic styles and textures. In many cases I have tried to insure the work does not resemble a photograph and is not viewed as one. Art has always reflected the culture in which it was produced. Digital artwork is an expression of todays digital age. With over thirty year's experience as a professional photographer, Richard Eller has been involved in a wide variety of photographic projects. After graduation from collage in 1974 he entered the field of multi media producing shows such as The San Francisco Experience and Welcome to Washington. In 1985 he left the field of multi-media to found Aerial Images specializing in Aerial Photography. Over the years his work has appeared in numerous magazines and publications. He currently resides in Tucson, Arizona where his work is represented by the Desert Artisans Gallery.
