FLUIDITY OF GENDER: SCULPTURE BY LINDASTEIN As artist-activist, lecturer, performer, as well as founding president of the non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, HAVE ART: WILL TRAVEL! Inc. (HAWT): http://haveartwilltravel.org/, my focus has been to encourage constructive and empowering male and female gender roles leading to Peace and Equality through the arts. As art editor of On The Issues Magazine, I have written articles highlighting sexism in the art world and moderated discussions on Masculinity/Femininity with men who are known for their books and articles on the changing male and the fluidity of gender in the 21st century. My 3-year traveling exhibition, The Fluidity of Gender: Sculpture by Linda Stein, will travel to: 1. Luce Gallery, Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA from September 5 - October 3, 2010 2. P.E.O. Foundation Art Gallery, Cottey College, Nevada, MO from October 15 - November 20, 2010 3. Neil Britton Art Gallery, Virginia Wesleyan College, Norfolk, VA from January 5 - February 18, 2011 4. Anne Wright Wilson Fine Arts Gallery, Georgetown College, Georgetown, KY from March 3 - April 10, 2011 5. Sarratt Gallery, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN from April 20 - May 26, 2011 6. GCSU Museum, Georgia College & State University, Milledgeville, GA from September 14 - November 10, 2011 7. Martin Art Gallery, Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA from November 21 - December 17, 2011 8. Spiva Art Center, Joplin, MO from July 19 - September 7, 2012 9. Alexandria Museum Of Art, Alexandria, LA from October - November 2012 10. Bogigian Art Gallery, Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA from March 31 - April 30, 2013 Most of these venues will be accompanied by my lecture, The Chance to be Brave, The courage to Dare, a 35-minute powerpoint discussion with 150 moving and still images. During the receptions of these exhibitions, student and/or professional dancers will perform wearing my sculpture, and viewers will then be allowed to “Body-Swap” wearing their new avatars. Videos of these events can be seen on YouTube. For outdoor bronzes, in addition to private commissions, I have been awarded the commission for three larger-than-life Knights to be sited as the central sculpture for the $4 million Walk of the Heroines at Portland State University. My work was also sited in the Adelphi University 2008-10 Biennial on Long Island.
