painter of landscapes, flowers and seascapes and Southern California landmarks

Elizabeth Miller had painted all of her life, but she was not able to do it on a full-time basis until after her retirement from her teaching and couseling job. After spending most of her adult life in New York City, she retired with her husband to Southern California, where she was finally free to devote her time to art. Without any formal art training, Elizabeth has been taking painting lessons with a number of outstanding artists, such Joe HIntersteiner and Tony Couch, of the Edgard Whitney school of painting, Zoltan Szabo, Stephen Quiller, Sally Miller to name a few. She has always gravitated towards teachers who share her interests, which are the natural beauty of landscapes and flowers, as well as landmarks and seascapes. She has experimented with several media and supports, but eventually she returned to her first love, watercolors, because of the many challenges this medium presents. A great deal of thought and preplanning goes into every painting, especially if the work is executed in pleine aire. The special intense light of Southern California is overwhelming, as are the large varieties of flowers found in this region. She finds these subjects are irresistable. Miller is currently a member of the Westlake Village Art Guild and the Thousand Oaks Art Asociation, where she enters her work in competitions. She was also a signature member of the now defunct California Gold Coast Watercolor Society. She has shown her work locally in both group and solo shows, and has been recongnized with numerous awards.
