I realized that in order to be happy my desire to create must be fulfilled. Nothing I see is taken for granted. People, places, and things are now seen in their proper light and are no longer restrained by reality’s preconceived notions. For more than 10 years, I kept my artwork based in reality—life put on paper—until my mind began to wander into history and put together all aspects of a singular event or person in one big surreal painting in my mind’s eye. Within my mediums, I have gone to the bottom of the deepest mines, walked the fields of great battles, and met people who have shaped the course of history. My inspiration comes from something as simple as cracks in the pavement, blistered paint, or warped stucco. Objects and occurrences that most people do not even notice become the foundation for some of my greatest artistic accomplishments. Being an artist has never been a choice for me. Art is my life and I am my art, no choice involved, and I cannot think of a better place to be.
