In these abstract drawings you look into an atmospheric landscape but more precisely it is a convergence of time and space. An entity surrounded by their environment is a universal concept, whether it is from what we call reality or in the realm of the sub-conscience. In my current body of work, The UFO series, I expand this theory to encompass extra-terrestrial themes.
I draw upon my childhood memories of lying in the back-yard and looking at the stars against a black back-drop. You could not see the hand in front of your face, in the pitch dark of night, in the remote town in upstate NY where I grew up. As a child my imagination would run wild and I would dream up scenes of Alien visitations and spaceships. Something might move in the stars un-naturally and then my dreams would wake me with visions unrecognizable to a child.
In these drawings I start with a matte black surface and let the scene unfold as I work.
