Large Porcelain Carbon Trap Bowl

added on Dec 2, 2010 / 15182 views / Collected 0 times

Placed in a high-risk zone of the Tin Man kiln, this porcelain bowl was fired upside-down over the firebox. Reaching temperatures approaching 2500 degrees, starved of oxygen the entire firing, dripped on by melting shelves, and this stunning centerpiece has a story to tell. The color and marking you see are only the clay and kiln working together- there is no applied glaze on this piece. given its size, it is very light at 8 lbs.
